Party Animal Dog Foods Recalled – Pentobarbital Contamination

Pet food company Party Animal has announced a recall of 2 of its dog foods over fears that the foods could be contaminated with the barbiturate¬†pentobarbital. In a statement issued on the company’s website Party Animal explains that it was recently notified about a customer complaint lodged at a retail store in Texas. Party Animal did not identify the store but says that the customer presented test results to the store that he or she claimed to have had done on the food. Those results allegedly came back positive for the drug.

The food in question was manufactured back in 2015 but has best-by codes of 2019. Party Animal says that it has requested retailers with food from those production runs to pull those cans from their shelves.

Covered in this recall are:

  • Cocolicious Beef & Turkey dog food – 13-oz cans bearing Lot #0136E15204 04 and a best-by code of¬† July 2019
  • Cocolicious Chicken & Beef dog food – 13-oz cans bearing Lot #0134E15 237 13 and a best-by code of August 2019

If you have any of this on hand you’re urged to return it to your place of purchase. You will, says Party Animal, be given a refund.

If there is actually pentobarbital in Party Animal’s dog food it is likely related to other recalls which at least one high-profile pet food company is blaming on a as-yet-unidentified beef producer.

Party Animal did not supply individual photos of the recalled dog foods. The PartyAnimalPetFood.com screengrab you see above was captured April 25, 2017 by Lisa Barger.
